Meandering

During a conversation with my friend Karryn Olson, she shared one of the most useful pieces of information I’ve heard when it comes to life and business: identify your strengths and use your particular abilities in service to others.

Too many of us make a life decision or start a business and then struggle because what we’re doing is out of sync with what we’re good at and what we love.

So, identify your strengths. That’s the first part.

The second is to make decisions in alignment with our goals. By making small choices every day, we can create the life and business that feeds our body and our soul.

The third is how we can use everything in service to others.

In my own practice, I normally charge $225 for an initial consultation and $125 per hour afterward. But I know that’s not the right option for everyone.

To help you work through this process, I would like to offer you a Meandering phone call.

Each month I offer a few, one-hour, one-on-one coaching sessions for $99 each. You only need to sign up for one and there’s never any pressure to sign up for another. We’re not setting up a mentoring program or ongoing consultation. This is just a casual phone call between the two of us to help you find your strengths, identify what you care about, and brainstorm how you might use that in service to others.

The catch to all this is that I’ll be going about my day while we chat. To be clear, I will pause to consider your questions and share any resources that come to mind. You may just hear some street traffic if I’m walking back from the grocery store, the sound of running water if I’m washing dishes, or meowing as I pet our sometimes demanding cat, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

If the session goes well, I would ask you to give a testimonial that I could use to share the value of a meandering session to those who don’t believe that a casual one-hour phone call can lead to so many positive outcomes.

If this is of interest to you, you can select the date and time that works best for you using the link at the end of this message and I’ll chat with you then.

A few quick notes, however, before you schedule this because I don’t want you to set up a meandering when what you really need is a consultation or other service.

1: No written materials will be provided during or after the call. This must be something we do while we’re going about our day. So if you want me to review documents for a project, a base map for a landscape design, or something else that would require me to sit down at my computer during the call, you’ll need to schedule a consultation. I don’t mind taking a quick look at something, but if I need to sit down and dig for information, a meandering is not the right type of call for us.

2: I won’t read anything or research anything before the call. We’re having a casual phone call about your strengths, passions, and goals. If you need me to read an email explaining what you want to talk about, a consultation is more appropriate.

3. I want to share a realistic expectation of what we will achieve during a meandering session. Foremost, we’ll be talking through and mapping out your strengths, and discussing some potential resources to help you take your next steps. We’re not going to have a complete business or 5-year plan all wrapped up at the end of an hour.

If you are coming in expecting this to be more than what it is, please don’t schedule a meandering. A meandering is the very real likelihood of making small but meaningful progress towards understanding your strengths and having a list of people, books, or other resources that can help take you further. It is a launching pad.

In the end, this is you and I chatting for an hour or so, person-to-person. It doesn’t take much in that space for us to create a deeply worthwhile experience.
